Southampton General Hospital is a large hospital with a number of specialist services ranging from neurosciences and oncology to pathology and cardiology. Emergency and critical care is provided in the hospital’s special intensive care units, operating theatres, acute medicine unit and emergency department (A & E), as well as the dedicated eye casualty unit. Southampton General also hosts outpatient clinics, diagnostic and treatment work, surgery, research, education and training, as well as providing day beds and longer stay wards for hundreds of patients.
A new entrance was planned for the emergency department and our brief was to survey the internal area plus the external facades and link building. This survey was to be produced as a 3D Building Information Model for use in Revit.
Existing survey stations were located and "traditional" survey techniques were used comprising of electronic total station and laser distos. Care was taken to be unobtrusive as possible and the field work was carried out efficiently to reduce the time on site.
Once the fieldwork was completed the data was imported and modelled direct using Revit 2014, plan, section and elevation views were created using the software.
Please visit our 3D modelling page for more information on Revit and also a video of a 3D flythrough.
